Sudden Hero is a G-Major piece written in a lively 2/4, with straight-forward rhythms
throughout. It features the frequent passing around of melodic material, allowing for each section to become the “hero” of the piece. Help your students listen for “the hero” and encourage them to bring out the melody whenever they have it.

The 1st violins are encouraged to use III position from m.80-89, as well as II position for
cellos from m.71-75. The staccato markings are intended to be fairly short, but with some
weight to them. Watch out for the interweaving ties in the ending. The counting will take
some work, but the payoff resolutions are worth it!

We all have our favorite superheroes. There are those who fight crime, have special mutant powers, and sometimes even save the planet from certain peril!

However, there are many types of heroes in our world. Some solve mysteries, some savelives, and some simply help you with your homework. On occasion, the average person
can find themselves in a position where they have to become a hero, whether they intended to or not. We love stories of Good Samaritans; strangers who come to the aid of others, simply because they saw the need for assistance. They could save someone from a burning building, or simply change a flat tire. In the blink of an eye, any person could become a hero, they just have to choose to help those in need.

Sudden Hero honors the many heroes in our lives, the people who put others before themselves to make the world a better place. Make sure to thank your parents, siblings, doctors, military members, firefighters, police officers……even orchestra directors ;-)
