My Gallipoli ‘100’ March was originally part of a larger scale work, Gallipoli ‘100’ an ‘Anniversary Tribute’ for Narrator, Military Band, Corps of Drums, Ship’s Bell & Church Organ, which was commissioned by the Fusilier Museum in Bury, Lancashire and first performed by Frank Renton (narrator) with the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Scotland conducted by Captain Andrew Gregory in Bury Parish Church on Anzac Day, 25 April 2015, one hundred years after the landings took place on the Gallipoli peninsular in 1915. The work was funded by Arts Council England and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Royal Navy. A smaller scale work, Gallipoli ‘100’ Suite, was extracted from this to enable more performances to take place in a concert environment. The march can stand alone and is published here for just that purpose although it is contained in the published suite with the identical orchestration. The March is intended to be one for all nations who fought at Gallipoli in the spirit of reconciliation and as such is dedicated to ‘Tommy, Digger and Johnny Turk too!’
The work has been recorded on the MER label by the RNCM Wind Orchestra conducted by Jeffery C. Mathews.
