Rance Hawthorne

I am a lifelong native of East Texas where I live with my wife and son in White Oak, TX. I am a graduate of Northwestern State University with a bachelor's degree in Music Education. I have been a band director since 2010 and have taught in Hallsville, Kilgore, and currently am the Head Band Director at Sabine High School in Liberty City since 2019.

As an educator, I have extensive experience as a clinician for concert, marching, and jazz ensembles. Private lesson teacher specializing in brass, particularly trombone performance. I have been fortunate to have success every year in UIL, TMEA, and ATSSB contests with regular superior ratings as well as region and area honor band accolades, and several State Outstanding Performance Series placements.

In addition to teaching, I also actively compose and arrange music to fit the needs of a program. I have several fanfares available for Military Marching Bands featured here. I have written music for a multitude of schools including Bullard, Sabine, White Oak, Carlisle, Hallsville, Kilgore, Pittsburg, New Diana, Kilgore College, ETBU Tiger Marching Band, NSU Jazz Orchestra, & others. If you need a piece adapted for your ensemble, I can easily adapt it for your needs and create something to fit you.

As a musician, I have performed extensively across East Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. As a trombonist, I perform as a longtime member of Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs, a member of Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame and 6 times named Louisiana's Best Wedding Band, as well as multiple other accolades. Before its retirement, I performed frequently with Ambush as a part of the Weapons Of Brass Destruction horn section and still work as a member while we look for new opportunities. I play as the principal trombonist in the East Texas Symphonic Band, as well as performing in Marshall Symphony, Longview Symphony, Cane River Soul, Hardrick Rivers Revue, Tyler Community Band, and Shadows.

Finally, I have also had the opportunity to write and perform horn charts for local artists and recording studios. Adept at all brass instruments and saxophone. I have enjoyed getting to work with local artists to create new and exciting music.
