Rejoice! is a lateral look at the Advent hymn Veni, Veni Emmanuel (O come, o come Emmanuel).  The hymn is a synthesis of the great ‘O’ Antiphons that are used for Vespers during the octave before Christmas (Dec. 17-23 Dec). These Antiphons are of ancient origin, dating back to at least the ninth century but the hymn itself is much more recent, first appearing in the 18th century in the Psalteriolum Cantionum Catholicarum (Cologne 1710).  This arrangement focuses on the ‘Rejoice’ motif and sets it in a rhythmic, folk-like setting, full of energy and verve.
