A gentle song in ABA form catching the spirit of a relaxed summer’s day. Early in July 2024 I was asked to write a flashy trombone duet of 4 minutes’ duration for a summer school. I had been busy with other things so had to write quickly and therefore decided to start the duet with a slower section before moving on to the fireworks. I liked what emerged so then expanded it to make it a solo for flute or oboe. While I was at it I thought I would do a band version. Here then is Summer Song – gentle, warm, lyrical and technically undemanding.
