Walking westwards across Beach Green at Lancing, the November sky was laden with blues and greys as sunset approached. A band of clear sky just above the horizon allowed the low sun to flare orange and gold, delineating the wave-shaped roof of the Perch café sitting isolated on the beach. It was a brief but beautiful moment of brilliance before the sun appeared to sink into the sea. I have tried to capture it in this music. It is not difficult to play but requires good sustained tone, especially in the higher registers for the brass.
